On Light:
Everyone's heard the quote
Something to effect of
We are made of starstuff
Carl Sagan?
If you're into whimsy you might remember
What do stars do best? Shine.
Neil Gaiman.
As I pick myself up once more
Before
Bitterness and self-loathing
Weigh the soles of my shoes down into the Earth
I take a mighty leap headfirst
Back into myself
Into the pit
Of what I once described as an abyss
But now quantify my emptiness
By the amount of space available
For light to enter
A mighty step back
So I can see the entirety
Of the spectrum of the human experience
Accepting with a certain peace
Which permeates my every particle
To shine
The spectrum of light must be whole
To illuminate the darkness
The heartbreak
The elation
And everything in between
Must be felt
As one
Even then
The "why" of it all may not reveal itself
Except in the cracks between awake and asleep
Because the why
Is the same as the what, the who, the when, the how
And suddenly
I shine
